Subject: [Math4u] Re: Does fraction mean division?
hello,
"Fractions result from INEXACT DIVISION, when we view the remainder as a ratio of the divisor. "
19 divid by 8 = quotient 2 and the remainder 3
so the ratio 3 : 8 is equal to the fraction 3/8 isn't it?
another example :
35 divided by 6 = quotient 5 and the remainder 5
so the ratio is 5 : 6 and the fraction is 5/6
my question is :
when I see the fraction as for example : 9/14 I can quickly say
that is a ratio 9 :14 and this ratio is from some division where the remainder is 9 and the divisor is 14.
How to find this fraction?
if Q is the quotient of this division , I can say that
Q x 14+9= the dividend.
but that didn't give the concret division
