Sigh. Please, guys, don't mislead others by these erroneous posts.

As has been pointed out already, in the absence of parentheses,
evaluation order is regulated by precedence and associativity.
Multiplication and division having the same precedence, we need to look
to associativity for disambiguation, which in the case of arithmetic
operations is left to right. Thus, 16/2*2 has to be worked out left to
right, which yields 16. Try any mathematics software, such as
Mathematica or Maple, and you'll find they will give that result.

Any other results are not "open to discussion," but plain wrong.
